Most of us go through our lives playing it safe, sticking to routines and comfort zones. Why not shake things up and make the most out of life? Here are 20 things you can do to make life a little bit more interesting. Don’t just take our word for it; try it out yourself!

 

1. DO SOMETHING NICE FOR A STRANGER. 

How many times have we avoided helping out a stranger just because it feels awkward? Instead of ignoring him or her, why not step up to the plate and lend a helping hand? You never know, you just might make someone’s day better.

 

2. LEARN SOMETHING NEW.

Expanding our horizons and opening ourselves up to learning new things not only makes us well rounded, but also more open-minded. Whether it is a new sport, language or hobby, it is never too late to add something new to your repertoire. You never know, you might find a new activity you’ll enjoy.

 

3. COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR LOVED ONES AT LEAST ONCE A DAY.

Sometimes we get so caught up with work, training and our social lives, that we forget about the people who really matter. Making an effort to communicate with our loved ones at least once a day – whether it’s a phone call, text message or e-mail – should be on the top of our to do lists. Just a simple “hi” or “how are you” will suffice. These little gestures will remind them that you are thinking of them and that you care enough to devote a few minutes of your day to them.

4. TRY A NEW DISH.

Are you one of those people who always seem to order the same thing on the menu when you eat out? Why not be adventurous and try a dish you’ve never  tried before. Making new choices when it comes to food is the easiest way to spice up your life!

 

5. HELP THE LESS FORTUNATE. 

Give back to those in need and share your time, talent and money with them. By helping to improve their lives and giving them something to be thankful for, you’ve given them hope and opened the door for more opportunities.

 

6. START A JOURNAL.

Writing in a journal is the perfect outlet for stress. Whether you’re writing about your thoughts and feelings or simply want to take note of special life moments, a journal serves many purposes. It is also a great way to hone your writing skills — a much-needed tool in today’s competitive world.

7. CHANGE YOUR HAIRSTYLE.

Changing your hairstyle is the easiest way to update your look. Perhaps you’ve been sporting the same long hair for years. Cutting off a few inches won’t hurt! Your hair will just grow back anyway.

 

8. CHANGE THE WAY YOU EAT.

Eating better doesn’t mean you have to stop eating the food you enjoy. Mix it up! Make healthier choices when it comes to choosing meals but you can have a cheat day every once in a while.

 

9. FIX YOUR BED IN THE MORNING. 

Starting your day by fixing your bed in the morning can change your mindset for the entire day. It gives you a sense of accomplishment, creating positive vibes that will carry on to the evening. It will also prevent you from jumping back into bed and arriving to work late!

10. DRESS UP. 

Studies show that dressing up has the ability to put you in a positive mood and boosts confidence. Dressing like you just rolled out of bed will make you feel like jumping back into it, and possibly even staying in it. Dressing better also shows that you have confidence and that you care enough to make an effort to look good. Remember, first impressions always last!

 

11. STRETCH!

Many of us often forget to stretch before and after exercising, just because we are in a hurry. Instead of disregarding it, why not make stretching part of your routine? 10-15 minutes a day is all you need, just be sure to hold each position for at least 30 seconds. Not only does stretching have a calming effect, but it also reduces the risk of injury and improves flexibility.

 

12. GET ORGANIZED!

Tired of wasting time looking for your favorite shirt or even worse, important documents? Take 15 minutes out of your day to start organizing yourself. Put all your things in order, it will save you time and eliminate unwanted stress!

Do something that will make people put their hands together in resounding applause – whether it’s competing in martial arts, singing, or delivering an inspiring speech – and then enjoy all the attention you get afterwards.

Competition is known to build character and produce excellence. By putting your skills and techniques to the test, you can gauge where you are as an athlete, student or employee.

 

15. DRINK MORE WATER. 

Every system in your body needs water to function properly. It is what flushes out the toxins, brings nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for the tissues in your ear, nose and throat. Do your body a favor and rehydrate as often as possible! It will keep your skin looking supple, help maintain your normal bowel function, control calories and energize your muscles.

All work and no play won’t make the stress go away. Give yourself a few days, hours or even minutes to relax. You’ll find yourself more productive and enthusiastic about work.

Often, we become so engrossed with what’s going on in social media that we forget what’s happening in real life. Switch off your phones, laptops and take a break from social media. Learn how to appreciate a meal without needing to take a photo of it. Sometimes, some things are better left unsaid.

Saying “thank you” isn’t just good manners, but it also lets people know that we value what they have done for us. It reassures others that their help was appreciated and encourages them to do more good.

It is no surprise that leading a healthy lifestyle has many benefits. If we include exercise to our list of daily rituals, we will not only feel better but look better as well.
