So you’ve been hitting the gym on a regular basis, and everything has been going really well… until recently. Perhaps your honeymoon period with the gym has come to an end, or maybe you stopped seeing results when it comes to your progress. Well, if this has been happening to you, don’t worry – because all you need to do is to spice things up with a new activity.
Want to find out whether it’s really time to change things up? Today, Evolve Daily shares 5 Signs It’s Time To Shock Your Muscles With A New Workout:
1) You’ve been doing the exact same thing for the past 4 to 6 weeks
This is one of the biggest giveaways that it’s time to change your workout routine. If you don’t already know, your body is always working to maintain homeostasis, hence, it constantly adapts to repeated challenges (in this case, your exercise routine!) So if you don’t switch things up every 4 to 6 weeks, your body would get used to whatever you’re doing in the gym and as a result, stop burning calories the way it did at the beginning.
It doesn’t matter whether you decide to add in a session of Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or yoga – as long as it’s something different, we say go for it! By keeping things fresh, you would not only work other muscles, but also melt away fat more effectively.
2) You feel unmotivated to work out
When you stop seeing results, it’s only natural to feel disheartened and lose motivation to work out. After all, you work hard to achieve goals and see results. If you start dreading your workouts, then perhaps it’s time to take a short break or switch things up! Even a simple tweak like changing your running route or roping in some training buddies to join you in the gym could really make a difference when it comes to rediscovering that motivation.
3) You no longer feel challenged
When you walk away from your workouts without breaking much of a sweat or even getting your heart rate up much, then it means that you didn’t challenge your body enough. Well, if you do the exact same thing day after day, it’s only natural that you would eventually be able to get through your workouts more easily.
A common misconception people have is that they need to increase the length of their workouts to get more out of their training. But here’s the thing: quality beats quantity! So why not increase your workout’s intensity or simply immerse yourself in a new activity? Trust us, you would feel the difference.
4) You’re not seeing results anymore
At the early stages of your exercising, you probably saw results – be it fitness or weight-related – fairly quickly, perhaps faster than you expected. After all, when you start leading an active lifestyle after being inactive for an extended period of time, your body would work a lot harder to melt away fat and adapt to your workouts.
So if you notice that you aren’t seeing results or making progress, then perhaps it’s time to power through a new workout and give your muscles that much-needed shock!
5) You aren’t pushing yourself as much
When was the last time you went past your limits? If it has been awhile since you last pushed yourself, then it’s time to take a step back and reevaluate your gym activities. Are you not pushing yourself due to a lack of motivation (see #2) or is it because you need to challenge yourself with a new workout? Whatever it is, you should make sure you’re actually enjoying what you’re doing – or choose to do – so that you would always be motivated to push yourself and constantly improve.
So tell us, how many of these signs do you see in yourself? Take a moment to remember why you embarked on your fitness journey in the first place, and don’t let your lack of results or motivation take you away from your goals! Go on, you got this!
