7 Keys That Will Unlock Your Fast Track to Success in Martial Arts

Talk to any martial artist, and you’ll learn that their main motivation for training is to simply get better – and to someday, be the best martial artist he/she can be. All of us at Evolve Daily can relate to this, and we believe that you’re probably driven by the same motivation, too. That’s why we’re here to help you out!

It doesn’t matter whether you’re new to martial arts, or if you’ve been training for awhile. If you really wish to unleash your potential, then read on.

Today, Evolve Daily shares 7 Keys That Will Unlock Your Fast Track to Success in Martial Arts:

1) Learn from the best to be the best

If you want to evolve into the best version of yourself, then you have to learn from the best teachers. These are the ones who would really look out for you, and have your best interests at heart. Hence, they’ll make sure you’re getting the most out of every training session. Also, they’ll be there to encourage you when you get tired, and push your limits – so that you can be a better martial artist at the end of the day.

They’ll not only teach you all you need to know about martial arts, but also share some life lessons along the way. We believe that this would shape you to become a better person – both inside and outside the gym.

2) Make friends with those who bring out the best in you

Apart from your instructors, you’ll also be spending a lot of time with your gym buddies! So make sure you surround yourself with positive people who would go beyond limits and work towards goals with you. They’re the ones who would be willing to help you when you’re confused with certain techniques, and spur you on whenever you feel unmotivated. Of course, this should go both ways – so make sure you do the same for them, too!

Remember, you eventually become the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with, so make it a point to be around those who inspire you, and bring out the best in you.

3) Celebrate every improvement and milestone

We believe that it’s important to enjoy every step of your martial arts journey. So celebrate your progress, however small it might seem. It could be something as simple as getting yourself to that Muay Thai class after work, or eating a healthy post-workout meal. To us, these are definitely worth celebrating!

When you learn to embrace all parts of your journey, you’ll be more motivated to work towards getting better. (And yes, you’ll eventually reach all your goals!)

4) Have fun

Martial arts is a great way to boost your kid's confidence.

Martial arts is a great way to boost your kid’s confidence.

What’s the point of training (or doing anything, really) if you aren’t having fun? Let’s face it. If you aren’t enjoying yourself, there’s a good chance that you’re not putting your whole heart into it – whether it’s training, or your job.

When you’re passionate about something, you love every bit of it – including the bad parts. That means you’d find a way to make even your worst days count. And the best part about wholeheartedly loving your favorite martial art is that it would love you back. That means it would become such a big part of your life, that even when it feels like the world is against you, it’s there for you.

5) Drill with a focus on technique

Drilling with a heavy bag helps improve your technique and coordination.

It’s true that practice makes perfect. So if you want to make good progress, you have to be willing to spend a bit of extra time drilling. Think about it. If you spend just 10 minutes before or after class practicing a specific technique, you’ll gain a much better understanding and more importantly, improve.

We believe that when you spend extra time working on your weaknesses, you can eventually turn them into strengths. So make drilling a habit!

6) Stay committed to your training

It takes a great deal of dedication and effort to stay committed to your goals. That’s why those who are willing to stick it out through the tough times are the ones who eventually taste success.

Committing isn’t just showing up for the class and getting through that one hour. It’s having the discipline to plan and keep to a schedule, arrive early for training, fuel up with the right foods, and get enough rest. So when you decide to commit, make sure it’s something you really want, then stick to it.

7) Teach what you know

BJJ builds your focus and endurance.

The beauty of teaching others what you know is that you’ll deepen your understanding of it. When you focus on helping someone with a challenging technique, you not only make things clearer for him/her, but also for yourself. And the best part is that you’ll make new friends in the process! So the next time someone approaches you, make it a point to help. Who knows, you might end up with a new best friend!

With all that said, you should also remember to always be kind to yourself and of course, believe in yourself.

All of us at Evolve Daily know that you’ve got what it takes to not just be good, but great. So press on when your martial arts journey gets tough, and never stop evolving into the best version of yourself. Go on, you got this!
