7 Ways to Stay in Shape While on Holiday

With so much to take in and do on vacation, working out is probably the last thing on your mind. We know, because we’re guilty of that too.

While it is important to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of your holiday destination, we believe that staying active is also necessary. Of course, this is all about balance, so even if you manage to squeeze in one short workout on a week-long trip, it’s definitely an accomplishment!

Want to beat the (potential) holiday bulge from all that feasting and partying? Then read on and follow our short, simple guide about working out while you’re on vacation.

Today, Evolve Daily shares 7 Ways to Stay in Shape While on Holiday:

1) Take advantage of your hotel gym

As most hotels have a gym, you don’t have to travel too far to get to one. That means you can easily gain access to the necessary equipment for your workout.

If your hotel’s gym doesn’t appeal to you, why not head to a nearby one in the city and reward yourself with a shopping spree after your workout?

2) Get out and explore

You might probably be seduced by the idea of chilling out on your comfy hotel bed all day, with your room service meal beside you on your bedside table while you watch TV. We completely understand, and know how plush those hotel beds are! But every moment you spend cooped up in your room is a missed moment of adventure. So get out, because there’s a beautiful new world out there to get lost in.

Depending on where you are, you might be able to go on a bike tour – so you can cycle those calories away while sightseeing, or go hiking and chase the sunset!

If you’re unable to do any of those activities, you can wander the city by walking from place to place rather than taking the bus or train. When you track your movements with a workout app, you’ll notice that you’ve burned calories by simply walking!

After walking around all day, unwind with a relaxing massage – you earned it!

3) Try something new in the area

You can burn up to 1,000 calories in a 60-minute Muay Thai class!

It doesn’t matter whether it’s martial arts, yoga, or salsa. Now that you’re in a new place, it’s time to try something new! We promise you wouldn’t regret your decision, because you’d ultimately be expanding your horizons and it might potentially lead to a new hobby.

Psst! Those salsa moves might actually come in handy when you hit the clubs at night!

4) Make use of the hotel swimming pool

There would most likely be a swimming pool at your hotel. So why not spend some time swimming laps! Besides being a fun full body workout, swimming boosts endorphins, so you’d be in a good mood (and have a fabulous tan) after your swim.

5) Head to the beach for some water sports

Soak up the sun and get your heart racing with some water sports! Depending on where you are, you would have several options – from snorkeling to kayaking or pedal biking. And if you’re feeling extra adventurous, why not attempt to surf and catch some waves?

You’d probably be glad that you tried one of those exciting water activities, and we’re sure your experience would be an awesome vacation story which you can share with everyone back home!

6) Do bodyweight exercises from the comfort of your room

If you really don’t wish you leave your room, then why not do some simple bodyweight exercises? You wouldn’t have to worry about equipment because all you need is yourself! A short, simple workout would definitely be able to get your heart pumping and give you an endorphin rush.

Martial arts enthusiasts, if you happen to have a laptop with internet connection, you can try to pick up some new techniques at Evolve University!

7) Create a holiday workout plan

If you make plans to engage in physical activity while on holiday, chances are, you’d stick to it. Also, you’ll ensure that you pack your workout attire and shoes. That means you’ll really have no excuse to skip your workout!

Do include your travel buddies in your workout plans to keep things fun!

Remember, one hour is only 4% of your day – so you don’t have to worry about losing too much time for your other holiday activities. Go on, stay in shape while having the time of your life! We know you’ve got this!
