Anita Yeo: Not Your Ordinary 18 Year Old Girl

Anita Yeo is not your average 18 year old girl. She is a gifted pianist, and now a martial arts athlete too. She now trains martial arts 3-4 hours per day on most days. On weekends, Anita can be found at Evolve MMA for multiple classes in a row. Her work ethic is phenomenal. Her desire to unleash her greatness in life is tangible for everyone to see.

I’ve been interested in martial arts ever since I was a young girl,” Anita confesses. “I used to watch Bruce Lee movies with my brother and play Streetfighter with him too. We also watched some Muay Thai and MMA fights.”

Influenced by her brother, Anita’s interest in martial arts grew. Eventually, after searching on the Internet, Anita found Evolve MMA, where she has been a student for the last year and a half. “To me, what makes Evolve special is that you get to train under Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champions, professional MMA fighters, and Olympians. The chance to learn under champions all under one roof is really quite special,” she says.

Outside of her studies, drawing and playing piano, Anita spends her entire day in the gym. If she isn’t training with the beasts from the prestigious Evolve Fight Team, she’s either attending a Muay Thai sparring class or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — or sometimes, she does all three. You could credit her youth and eagerness to learn, but Anita’s hard work and determination are special qualities that all her teammates see in her. After all, not everyone has the energy to do all that she does.

For Anita, training at Evolve MMA has given her valuable skills and confidence that she can use throughout the rest of her life. Now, she’s achieved a Level 2 in Muay Thai, her fourth stripe in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and has earned a much coveted place in the MMA competition team.

As one of Evolve MMA’s most dedicated students, it is no surprise that after a year and a half of training, Anita has finally been recognized for all her efforts. Her teammates and coaches have nothing but great things to say about her:

Anita is very competitive. Sometimes, she trains with us at the Fighters Program. She’s a tough girl and has a warrior spirit. I hope to see her compete in MMA soon.” – UFC Fighter and BJJ World Champion, Leandro “Brodinho” Issa

Anita receives her Level 2 in Muay Thai from Muay Thai World Champions Nonthachai Sit O, Namsaknoi Yudthagarngamtorn, and Orono Wor Petchpun.

So what’s next for Anita? An MMA fight of course. “MMA is a point where all the martial arts I practice meet, but I think it’s important to have a base in striking and grappling. I want to compete in MMA and test my skills and see how far I’ve come,” Anita reveals.

The Evolve Family would like to extend Anita our sincerest congratulations on her well-deserved Student of the Month honors. She is truly an inspiration to us all and we believe she has what it takes to become successful in martial arts and in life. We look forward to seeing her continue to follow her passions here at Evolve MMA.

By training martial arts, you get the confidence to handle anything that comes your way. You put yourself under pressure and force yourself to work under stress. Here at Evolve, I’ve met people whose passion and determination motivate me,” Anita tells us, ” I think Evolve is a place where you can grow mentally and physically. Just keep training, you’ll be inspired by the people around you.”
