To give us the energy we need before working out, we need carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. In fact, many marathon runners prefer to “carbo load” hours before they go on their runs in order to give their body a steady source of energy throughout the entire duration of their run.

Heath’s Pre-Workout Veggie Smoothie contains sliced bananas, which provide 27 grams of total carbohydrates. In fact, studies show that bananas can be just as beneficial as sports drinks.

1 spoon greek yogurt

Ice cubes

After exercising, our body needs to recover especially after all the hard work we’ve put it through. Understandably, it could be a bit overwhelming to wolf down a full meal. However, to maximize tissue repair and growth, you need to make sure you eat within 25-30 minutes to replenish the carbs, protein, and fats your body just used up.

The best way to do this is by drinking a smoothie, especially since it is quickly digestible. Heath’s Post-Workout Chocolate Smoothie contains three sources of protein: protein powder, almond milk and Greek yogurt. This will help rebuild your muscles and regain strength for your next workout.

For the best pre and post-workout meal, there’s no doubt that a smoothie will do the trick. All you need to do is pick the right ingredients that will give you the nutrition you need to meet your goals.
