Dear Future Self,
Stop whatever you’re doing now, and take a moment to just breathe. Look around you and be present. Smile at the next person you cross paths with, pick up the phone and call one (or more) of your family members – it doesn’t matter who, just do it and tell them you love them. Step outside and bathe in the sunlight, or rain, and remember that this moment is all that truly matters.
The past couple of years have been filled with many ups and downs. You fell in love, got your heart broken, made some bad decisions, lost some friends, turned a few strangers into friends, got lost in new parts of the world, felt alone in a crowded place, learned that being alone doesn’t mean you’re lonely, picked yourself up at your lowest point… and for some reason, you ended up at a martial arts gym just because. Well, I hope you’re still impulsive as ever, because the decisions you make on a whim are usually your best ones. The question is, are you still training Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? Did you manage to get past your fear of sparring and more importantly, have you made good progress?
Do you still stay up late at night thinking and worrying? I know that life can sometimes get pretty overwhelming. That’s why I’m here to remind you that whatever you’re struggling with now will pass. You’ve come so far and you will continue to move forward – as long as you stop second guessing yourself. You may have made some mistakes in the past but here’s the thing: every decision you made brought you to where you are today. So stop beating yourself up, and trust yourself more. Don’t regret any of your mistakes or decisions, because they are all ultimately part of your journey.
Embrace every experience and enjoy every moment of this fleeting life – because when you see the beauty in everything, you’ll understand just how lucky you are to be alive. I wonder if you still take those 15 minutes to think about something or someone that makes you happy, before you drift off to sleep. If, for some reason, you stopped doing this, it’s time to start again! Always be thankful because whether you realize it or not, you already have everything you need.
Remember, life isn’t a sprint. It’s a marathon. So don’t feel the need to rush to the finish line just because you think some of your friends have already crossed it. At the end of the day, your life is your own. So please continue to dream big and keep creating your own reality because there are still so many chapters in your book that are waiting to be written – and the pen’s in your hand.
