1) How much water have you drunk so far?
This is one of the first questions you have to ask yourself when you start feeling the need to munch on something. Ideally, you should be drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day (more, if you lead an active lifestyle!) So if you know that you haven’t had enough water yet, chances are, you’re actually thirsty and not hungry. That means you should be reaching for a glass of water and not a plate of food!
2) Do you have a headache?
If you’re feeling fatigued or have a headache, it could mean that you’re slightly dehydrated and in need of water. Other signs of dehydration that you may experience on top of this include dizziness, constipation, as well as dry skin and eyes. Also, your urine will be of a dark yellow color instead of clear. So ensure that you drink sufficient water throughout the day and keep yourself hydrated – even when you don’t feel thirsty.
3) How long ago was your last meal?
Of course, it’s normal to feel hungry if you had your last meal awhile ago. However, if it has also been awhile since you had your last glass of water, we suggest drinking a full glass of water and giving yourself 15 minutes to see if the feelings of hunger still persist. If you feel satisfied after having that glass of water, it means you were thirsty and not hungry. On the other hand, if your stomach is still grumbling, it means that you’re hungry and it’s time to dig into some food!
4) Do you feel satisfied after eating?
Feel like you can’t get enough food in your system? Perhaps you’ve been eating and eating, but somehow you just don’t feel satisfied. Well, if that’s the case, then water is the only thing that will satisfy you – because you’re thirsty! So make sure that you reach for that glass of water, and more importantly, keep yourself hydrated before, during, and after every meal.
