Now that we’re halfway through 2017, perhaps it’s time to take a step back and reflect on the past few months. Have you managed to stick to any of your resolutions? Well, even if you haven’t, it’s not too late to try to get back on track again. After all, what is every new day but a fresh chance to start over and make every moment count?
If you’ve been struggling to lead a healthier life, then maybe you should consider taking some small steps to ultimately get you to your destination. It may not feel like a lot, but trust us – every step counts!
Today, Evolve Daily shares 7 Simple Steps To Lead A Healthier Life:
1) Swap every drink for water
It doesn’t matter whether it’s that canned drink or your favorite cocktail because all they do is make you consume unnecessary calories. If you want to keep your body hydrated and function at your best, then you should aim to drink more water. Ideally, you should be drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily – and that’s just the bare minimum!
By swapping every drink for water, you will not only be cutting your sugar intake but also reducing your risk of contracting diabetes and heart disease.
2) Include a superfood in every meal
If eating a salad daily is too much for you to commit to at this point, then why not keep it simple by adding a superfood to every meal? Doing so will help make your meals a touch healthier, and also potentially help you to burn more fat while reaping the nutritional benefits. From chia seeds to salmon and avocados, your options are endless. All you have to do is decide which one to add to which meal.
3) Add strength training to your workouts
If you’ve been working out regularly but find that you aren’t seeing the results you wish to obtain, then it’s time to change things up! By shocking your muscles with something new, you will be engaging different muscle groups that might not have been utilized as much before, while melting away fat more effectively.
If getting rid of pesky fat is a high priority, then you should definitely consider training martial arts or lifting some weights. This is because when you build lean muscle, your body will burn more calories at rest.
4) Switch your phone to night mode
When it gets dark, do you switch your phone to night mode (or night shift for iPhone users)? If you don’t already do so, it’s time to start! This is because night mode makes things easier for your eyes by making your phone display warmer as compared to the default setting, which is bright blue light.
Research has shown that this kind of light can disrupt sleep patterns, so why not do your eyes a favor and switch to night mode in the evening? By doing this, you won’t have to strain your eyes as much to focus on your screen, and you’ll get a better night’s sleep.
5) Get enough sleep at night
Be honest, how often do you wake up feeling like a zombie? If you deprive yourself of quality sleep every night (especially on weekdays when you have to wake up early for school or work), you will not only have difficulties concentrating but also hinder your body’s ability to recover and potentially end up binging on unhealthy food.
When you make it a point to clock in 7 to 8 hours of sleep, your body will have enough time to repair itself and recharge, so that you can take on the next day with a clear mind and well-rested body.
6) Make more time for yourself
With our hectic schedules and day-to-day commitments, it comes as no surprise that we often neglect to make time for ourselves. However, it is important to carve out some time for yourself every day – whether to simply unwind with a book or spend an hour in the gym.
Spending some time alone enables you to clear your mind and at the same time, give you the opportunity to reflect as well as think more deeply. On top of that, you will get to know yourself better and foster a better relationship with yourself.
7) Think about something that you’re grateful for
It has been found that gratitude plays a part in improving your psychological and physical health as well as making you a more resilient person.
So if you don’t already take a moment to be thankful for someone or something daily, then make it a habit to start! Doing so will not only put a smile on your face but also make you a more positive person.
So tell us, are you ready to lead a healthier life?
