Some of the best things in life are free. Other things, the precious ones that last a lifetime, only come into being after much sacrifice. These are the things of great worth — things like freedom, success, meaningful relationships, even a healthy lifestyle.
The word ‘sacrifice’ invokes thoughts of suffering and backbreaking work. Thanks to martial arts like Muay Thai, it does not have to. When it comes to achieving a healthy lifestyle, Muay Thai helps you to adopt the mindset of a champion. This winner’s mindset will drive you to achieve things of great worth — the kind of things you would usually consider to be out of your reach.
The very nature of Muay Thai draws you in, such that the hours of practice that you put in do not feel like a sacrifice at all. In this way, Muay Thai will ultimately change your concept of sacrifice, from a thing that costs you greatly, to something that builds you up. Let Arvin Isabelo’s story tell you how.
From Silicon Valley To A New, Familiar Country
Arvin Isabelo has many years’ experience working on the business side of the tech industry. His job afforded him the chance to move from the familiar landscape of Silicon Valley to Singapore. So four years ago, he found himself in a new country that strangely enough, felt a lot like home.
Arvin fell in love with Singapore the minute he set foot on its soil. He made new friends and developed a fun, active nightlife. He tried new experiences, explored new places, and fell even more in love with this corner of the world.
Arvin did not discover Muay Thai on one of his many excursions. The actual story is more pedestrian. It turns out Arvin works in a building that has a clear view of the Evolve MMA (Far East Square) facility. He would look over and see people training hard and having a good time as they trained. One day, he decided to walk over and take a trial lesson. That was the day Arvin discovered Muay Thai. The art of eight limbs introduced him to a philosophy that shaped his life in many positive ways.
Arvin’s And Muay Thai
You could call Arvin a high achiever. He pursued a career in a demanding field, and he did pretty well. His work allowed him to travel, which is how he ended up in Singapore. Arvin also loves sports, traveling, people, and music, which means that he thrives on an active lifestyle.
The excitement of a new country led Arvin to a life of parties and late nights out. At the end of his first year in Singapore, Arvin felt that he needed a change.
Since he loved sports, he joined a gym. But Arvin just wasn’t into it. First off, his efforts at the gym didn’t yield the results he wanted. Secondly, he found his gym sessions repetitive and boring. He hired a trainer, but it did not make his fitness regimen any more interesting.
So, one day, Arvin walked into Evolve MMA and took a trial lesson. He loved every minute of it and wondered why he hadn’t tried it sooner. That is how Arvin finally found a fitness regime that worked for him. He got a whole lot more in the bargain.
The Full-Body Effects Of Muay Thai
A typical hour-long session at your typical gym has can only do so much for the body. You can either choose an intense cardio workout with a little stretching or strength training. Or you can choose strength training and forego a brisk cardio session. Whatever you choose to do with your hour at the gym, you are unlikely to achieve a full-body workout that can burn up to 1,000 calories per hour.
Muay Thai can do exactly that. Between learning new techniques, perfecting said techniques, and sparring, Muay Thai exercises the muscles in the back, shoulders, hips, legs, chest, and core, often at the same time. All while providing you with the most intense cardio you have ever done.
Focus, Patience, and Perseverance
It takes time and practice to learn a new skill. Practice implies repetition, which requires patience and focus. Every now and then, Arvin had to work extra hard to perfect a new technique. He had to develop the patience to practice a move over and over again, even when he seemed to get it wrong with each try.
Still, he persevered. He kept at it until he got it right. There is a special kind of pride that a person feels when they finally crack that thing or solve that problem that seemed impossible. Arvin got to experience that rush of triumph many times over the course of his training.
