From Video Games To Real Life, Here’s How Martial Arts Changed This 14 Year Old Boy’s Life

The typical 14-year-old boy will spend every single waking moment (after school, of course) playing video games or hanging out at the mall with his friends. In the past, Simon Lange was one of them.

Simon tells Evolve Daily about his life before joining Evolve MMA: of how he couldn’t wait to rush home after school to watch television and play video games, or occasionally, to skateboard. Of course, snacking was included in this routine, which led to a lot of weight gain. “I didn’t do much,” Simon says, “I just ate a lot and sat around.” Nevertheless, he knew that he wasn’t getting any healthier and that something needed to change.

Simon was always interested in martial arts, but never took the chance to pursue it. He would play video games and watch videos that were always related to martial arts. Finally, after persistently searching for the right academy, he found Evolve MMA. “I knew I had come to the right place,” reveals Simon, “The instructors were so friendly! They just really seemed to care about me.

Today, Simon has been nominated by all his instructors to be Evolve MMA’s Student of The Month for December.  He has become one of Evolve MMA’s most dedicated students. Currently a Level 2 student in Muay Thai, he has also received his second stripe in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Under the careful guidance and encouragement of his instructors, he has even tried out for the elite Evolve Muay Thai competition team. His father, Ralf Lange, believes that the changes in Simon are nothing short of amazing.

He’s lost 10 kilos in less than a year, and he’s become very motivated and disciplined in school — he’s a totally different boy now!” Ralf exclaims.

Although such dedication is quite unheard of for such a young athlete, Simon shows maturity and confidence beyond his years. He attributes it all to martial arts. His advice for other young, budding martial artists:

Just keep working and training hard. Know where you want to be and take a step closer to it every day. Nothing is impossible for a willing heart. All you have to do is set your goals and believe in yourself.”

The Evolve Family would like to extend Simon sincere congratulations on his well-deserved Student of the Month honors. We believe he has what it takes to become successful in martial arts, and we look forward to seeing him continue his journey at Evolve MMA.

Here’s what his instructor, Muay Thai World Champion Muangfalek Kiatvichian has to say about him:

Simon really trains hard! He’s very focused and I’d like to see him join some amateur competitions in the future. There’s no doubt that he has lots of potential.”
