We’ve said this before, but we’ll say it again: you can’t out-exercise a poor diet. That means no amount of gym time can help you to achieve your dream body if you aren’t fuelling up with nutritious food. After all, you are what you eat. And let’s face it – you aren’t going to even get close to shedding that pesky fat if you constantly fill your stomach with junk food and/or desserts.
With that said, you don’t have to wave the white flag and give up on your dream body right away, because all it takes are some simple diet changes. So if you’re serious about getting into the best shape of your life, then read on. Today, Evolve Daily shares 5 Fat-Busting Nutrition Tips:
1) Eliminate all sugary drinks
Sugar laden beverages such as soda or canned drinks can get in the way of your fat loss goals and not to mention, affect your health. The problem with sugary drinks is that your brain doesn’t recognize them as solid food, so you’d be consuming these extra calories on top of whatever else you’re eating. If you really wish to lose fat, then stop drinking these sugary drinks (yes, this includes diet soda!) Instead, why not stay hydrated with some good ol’ calorie-free H2O? We’re pretty sure your body would thank you for that.
2) Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily
Speaking of water… It’s no secret that having enough water is important for your body to function at its best. Unfortunately, we sometimes don’t drink enough water and as a result, we end up overeating because we mistake our thirst for hunger. Psst! If you wish to give your metabolism a boost, then make sure you drink iced water. Research has shown that cold water keeps you satisfied for longer periods of time, and also makes your body works harder to get the cold water to your body temperature. As a result, more calories are burned in the process.
3) Consume more omega-3
Did you know that good fats can help with the fat melting process? If you don’t already know, fish oils contain essential omega-3 fats which can rev up the fat melting process – especially when combined with exercise. So start munching on fatty fishes such as salmon, tuna, sardine and mackerel! Besides helping with fat loss, these fatty fishes also reduce your risk of getting cancer while fighting against inflammation.
4) Drink whey protein shakes
It has been discovered that protein aids in weight loss by reducing appetite and boosting metabolism. For those who work out, whey protein shakes can help with fat loss while enhancing lean muscle growth. Research has shown that subjects who had a protein shake 90 minutes before eating a buffet-style meal ate less than those who didn’t consume the shake.
Another thing you can do is to add less water to your shake so that it becomes thicker. This is because you’d feel less hungry after consuming these thicker shakes. A study from Purdue University reported that subjects who consumed thicker shakes had greater reductions in hunger as compared to those who didn’t.
5) Drink more green tea
Apart form being rich in antioxidants, green tea contains catechins, which plays a part in speeding up your metabolism and melting away more fat. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition revealed that people who drank four cups of green tea daily lost more than six pounds in eight weeks. So the next time you’re in need of a caffeine boost to overcome that mid-day slump, why not reach out for a cup of green tea and burn some fat in the process?
Of course, these changes aren’t going to deliver overnight results – but however small they seem, these changes would lead to big results. So make it a point to consistently follow these tips, eat well, get sufficient rest, and burn those calories in the gym! By leading a healthier lifestyle, you’d not only lose that unwanted fat but also lower your risk of getting diseases and boost your energy levels. Now go forth and get into the best shape ever. You got this!
