WATCH: Here’s How Martial Arts Changed The Life of 42-year-old Terry Loh

“It is never too late to be what you might have been.” – George Eliot

When you make the decision to change your life, you’ll realize that as you work towards your goal, everything else falls into place seamlessly. 42-year-old Terry Loh knows exactly what this feels like. Because of martial arts, he was able to completely transform his life for the better and hasn’t looked back since.

Before joining Evolve MMA, Terry weighed 109 kilos.

“I was quite overweight before joining Evolve MMA,” Terry told Evolve Daily. At his peak, he weighed 109 kilos. For Terry, this was a sign that he needed to make some changes in his lifestyle and get active. He recalled his childhood and how he failed every single one of his fitness tests at school. “When I was 10, my uncle introduced me to Taekwondo. This was the start of my martial arts journey.” Terry explained.

A professional services manager for a security solutions provider, Terry’s job never required him to be physically active. Before Evolve MMA, Terry’s focus was solely on his job. Although he had some hobbies, nothing had truly sparked his interest – until he joined Evolve MMA.

Because of martial arts, Terry has lost over 28 kilos.

There’s no doubt that Terry’s life has changed dramatically in the past year. He’s become more focused at work and feels more sociable and confident especially after rekindling his martial arts journey. “Evolve has made me want to become better – physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally,” said Terry. “The amazing life stories and experiences of the World Champion instructor team have pushed and inspired me to become a better person and student.”

Today, Terry is one of Evolve MMA’s most dedicated students. He credits his instructors for helping him achieve his Level 2 certification in Muay Thai and his first stripe in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). He has also lost 28 kilos, a feat that Terry has certainly never expected.

This year, Terry received his Level 2 certification in Muay Thai.

Although Terry has lost a significant amount of weight, he has set the bar even higher for himself – not only weight-wise but also skill-wise. Thanks to the prodding of his instructors at Evolve MMA, he wants to constantly improve himself. “I’d like to focus on improving my sparring skills now,” explained Terry. “And attend more BJJ classes as well.”

With his newfound self-discipline, he has also learned how to apply it in the workplace. “Martial arts taught me perseverance. I used to be one of those people who would easily give up when faced with a problem, but now I know how to problem solve and look for other solutions,” Terry shared.

The Evolve Family would like to extend Terry our sincere congratulations on his well-deserved Student of the Month honors. He is an inspiration to us all and we believe he has what it takes to become successful in martial arts and in life. We look forward to seeing him continue to strive for excellence in his martial arts journey here at Evolve MMA.

Here’s what Terry’s instructors have to say about him:

“I remember the first time I saw Terry, he was overweight and his goal was just to become fit. So I asked him, “Why not lose weight and learn Muay Thai at the same time?” Now, he has not only lost weight, but he has also learned how to defend himself. Most importantly, he has gained a lot of confidence from training martial arts.

Terry achieved his ideal weight in just one year because he always gives 100% in training. I am very proud of him, he looks so much healthier now. I hope he will continue to stay healthy by training hard at Evolve.”
