In the fast-paced world of today, it has become increasingly difficult to maintain focus and concentrate on various things we have to do with all that is going on in our everyday lives. Oftentimes, there is just too much peripheral noise that surrounds us, and it takes our attention away from matters that are truly deserved of our time.
Imagine just how much more we can get done throughout the day if we can only learn to tune out the noise and the distractions. People tend to do many things to keep focused, such as make lists, reorder priorities — people have even been known to see specialists.
It can get pretty frustrating, having to deal with so many things at once. Before you go bonkers, we have come up with a few ways to help you enhance your concentration. There are many different ways to improve your focus. Here are some really easy things you can try.
Today, Evolve Daily shares 5 Simple Ways To Significantly Improve Your Focus.
1) Practice martial arts
Exercise is one of the best ways to enhance mental capacity, and of course, your concentration. The great thing about martial arts training is that it is not only a rigorous physical activity but also an amazing way to enhance the mind and the body.
Martial arts develops entire muscle groups, improves breathing, and pays attention to every little detail. For example, executing the textbook punch in boxing involves focusing on proper movement and footwork, as well the correct way to transfer power from the base to the fist. Chaining positions in wrestling involves ample technique and form. You get the picture.
Whatever martial art we practice, developing proper technique is a must. In doing this, we actually directly enhance our focus because this synchronizes our mind and body.
Not only is martial arts great for our physical and mental well-being, it is also the most fun you will ever have at the gym. You’ll make awesome friends for life, people who will share the journey with you.
Martial arts doesn’t just allow us to reach our full physical potential, it also helps us improve every aspect of our daily lives. Because a large portion of martial arts helps us train our bodies and minds to become healthier, we are able to focus harder.
2) Unplug for 30 minutes a day
People don’t often realize it, but we are so connected to our digital lives that it severely takes away from our focus each and every day. We are always browsing the internet on our laptops, watching videos on Youtube, and spending way too much time on Facebook. We are also constantly fiddling with our mobile phones.
Sometimes, it’s just best to unplug and leave our digital lives behind for a short period each day.
Strive to give yourself at least 30 minutes of peace and quiet each and every day. Put away your mobile phone, close that lid on your laptop and step out of the office. Take a walk through the park, or find a quiet place away from the noise that envelops your life.
If you can manage more than 30 minutes, much better. But seriously, 30 minutes a day to clear your mind will greatly enhance your focus and will reinvigorate you so that when you do get back to your normal, busy life, you’ll be refreshed and reenergized.
3) Take a break from work and attend to your distractions
This is completely opposite to number two on this list, but also equally as effective. Instead of succumbing to distraction, embrace it. Is social media always on your mind? Get right to it.
Instead of glancing back and forth at your mobile phone, take a step back, and dive right into it. Sometimes, our distractions can be just what we need to take our mind off stress and work. Take some time out to catch a nice movie, get a massage, catch up with friends, or just simply do nothing and relax. Enjoy the peace and tranquility — anything that can peel your mind away from work.
With so much going on, a lot of our personal lives intertwine with our business lives that it’s hard to draw the line. Taking time off from stress and work means we replenish our mental energy, which significantly improves our focus.
4) Find a quiet place to work
If you really can’t get away from the hustle and bustle of your work life, then at the very least, find a quiet place to work. Find a place where you can maintain focus on the task at hand and rid yourself of every distraction.
If you’re stuck at the office, close the door. Enjoy your 15-minute breaks and your lunch hour. This is very important. When you’re on break, be completely on break. Don’t take any calls, don’t even dare open up that laptop. Relish in your moments of freedom.
Sometimes, all it really takes to improve our focus is good old fashioned peace and quiet. When our mind is clear, and the environment is tranquil, we free our minds from distraction.
With a clearer head, we can focus on whatever it is we need to accomplish, increasing our efficiency and productivity.
5) Get ample rest each day
The inability to maintain focus and concentration is directly related to the amount of sleep an individual gets. So we can’t really stress this enough, but try to get as much sleep as you can every night.
Human beings need rest, it’s basic science and nature. Six to eight hours is ideal for the average adult. Anything less than that and it will affect our daily performance.
Sleep deprivation is also known to cause obesity, which in turn has many effects on our physical and emotional state of being. Not getting enough sleep makes sure that we are sluggish and lethargic throughout the day, not particularly sharp, and completely out of focus.
