It has only been 6 months since 2023 started and it was already filled with many jaw-dropping moments. With World Champions in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, Boxing, Submission Grappling, and many more, the Evolve Fight Team and Competition Team continued their impressive run of victories in the month of May.
Evolve Fight Team Goes 3-0 At ONE Fight Night 10!
It was a triumphant night for the Evolve Fight Team at ONE Fight Night 10 on May 5th! It was ONE Championship’s first-ever debut on U.S. soil and Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson rounded up his trilogy against Adriano Moraes. After 5 exciting and heart-pounding rounds, DJ emerged victorious by unanimous decision and went on ahead to retain his Flyweight World Title.
Mikey “Darth Rigatoni” Musumeci in a similar fashion showed us what it was like to be a World Champion as he went head-to-head with Osamah Almarwai in the Flyweight Submission Grappling World Championship division. Needless to say, Mikey was victorious as he submitted Osamah via rear-naked choke to retain his Flyweight Submission Grappling World title.
And finally, after 4 years, multiple-time Karate World Champion “Super” Sage Northcutt showed us just how ready he was in the ring, dispelling any talks of ring rust and proving that he is still a force to be reckoned with. Because in just 39 seconds, Sage won the match by submitting Ahmed Mujtaba with a heel hook.
It was an exciting night for the Evolve Fight Team as we went 3-0, and to add on, both Mikey and Sage were also awarded a special US$50K bonus each for their spectacular victories! Congratulations once again to the 3 fighters and ONE Championship for a successful debut on U.S. soil!
Noah Lim Clinches Gold Medal For Singapore
At the 32nd SEA Games held in Cambodia, our very own Noah Lim clinched the first Gold medal for Singapore in Ju-jitsu, he was up against Laos’ Jedidiah Slayman Phomsavath and submitted him in under a minute at the men’s under-69kg finals on May 6th.
Noah dominated the competition at the Chroy Changvar International Convention and Exhibition Center from early on, beating Vietnam’s Nguyen Huu Khang via submission before defeating Malaysia’s Adam Akasyah 4-0 in the semi-finals.
But this victory did not come without sacrifice, Noah dislocated his pinky finger one week prior to the match but decided to press on ahead with the competition.
A beneficiary of the Evolve Future World Champions Program, Noah won Singapore’s first-ever gold in the sport in the men’s under-62kg event back in the 2019 SEA Games. He continues to improve his game and shine for his country. Congratulations Team Singapore and Noah Lim once again!
