Martial arts has the incredible ability to turn anyone’s dreams into reality. It teaches you valuable lessons such as patience, hard work and perseverance – lessons that stick with you and change you for the better; mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
Perhaps one of the greatest testaments to the power of martial arts is 39 year-old Irfan Iltaf, a Chief Information Technology Officer by trade and a Muay Thai student by night. Before taking up Muay Thai, Irfan was in search of a new hobby, something to take the place of his boring old gym routine. Like other martial artists, he wanted to learn something different that would force him out of his comfort zone.
After watching a Muay Thai fight at Lumpinee Stadium in Thailand, Irfan’s mind was set: Muay Thai would become his salvation. He immediately bought a pair of gloves and enrolled himself in a Muay Thai gym in London, only to move to Singapore three months later and find himself attending an intro class at Evolve MMA.
And as they say, the rest is history. Irfan finally found himself becoming more and more devoted to Muay Thai, thanks to all the Muay Thai World Champions at Evolve MMA. He credits his instructors as his inspiration to continuously work hard and take his Muay Thai to the next level, which is exactly what he did.
Three Muay Thai levels later, Irfan decided on trying out for the Muay Thai competition team and was quite successful in doing so. Apart from his regular Muay Thai training and private sessions, Irfan also included the grueling 2-hour Muay Thai competition team training into his repertoire. Eventually, Irfan would join two amateur Muay Thai competitions and win both fights.
“There’s really no substitute for hard work. The more effort and hard work you put in, the greater chance you have for success,” explains Irfan. There’s no doubt that all he’s achieved in Muay Thai is because of the time and effort he’s put into training. After each training session, you’ll find Irfan drilling techniques with other Muay Thai students or humbly asking for tips or help to take his Muay Thai to the next level.
Today, Irfan is one of Evolve MMA’s most passionate students. He has been nominated by all his instructors to be Evolve MMA’s Student Of The Month for November. A level 4 student in Muay Thai, Irfan has competed twice and is looking forward to his next fights.
The Evolve Family would like to extend Irfan sincere congratulations on his well-deserved Student Of The Month honors. We believe he has what it takes to become successful in martial arts, and we look forward to seeing him continue his journey at Evolve MMA.
Here’s what Irfan’s instructors have to say about him:
Irfan is a good student. Ever since he joined the Muay Thai competition team, he has improved a lot because of the hard work and dedication he shows during training. In his last two fights, he showed great technique and skill. I hope he continues to train hard and focus on his goals. Everyone on the team is very proud of him.”
– Namsaknoi Yudthagarngamtorn, 3-time Lumpinee Muay Thai World Champion
Irfan has improved a lot in all areas of his game. He listens and understands all the techniques that we practice during our sessions. I am very proud to have been part of his Muay Thai journey, and I hope he will continue to enjoy learning more about Muay Thai. “
– Saknarong Sityodtong, Muay Thai Champion
Irfan’s story is truly proof that anything is possible as long as you are willing to work hard for it. “Training at Evolve MMA has given me a sense of belief that I can achieve anything if I put my mind to it. I had no idea I would be fighting at the age of 38,” admits Irfan. There’s no doubt that greatness is truly within everyone. All we need are the right tools to help unleash them.
