This Young Lady Is Proof That You Can Unleash Your Fullest Potential Through Martial Arts

“If you always put a limit on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread in your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus and you must not there, you must go beyond them.”

– Bruce Lee

The Internet is littered with inspirational quotes at every corner, reminding and encouraging you to take a step out of what you’re used to – to break away from your comfort zone. But we all know that it takes more than just chancing upon an inspirational quote to move us; it requires a turning point. A firm, motivated push within us for that much needed change.

30-year old full-time real estate agent Jane Tan believes in the importance of “putting yourself out there”. She believes that one must break away from the usual routine in order to do and achieve great things. And by making a simple but unfaltering decision to empower herself through martial arts, that’s exactly what she did.

Before joining Evolve MMA, Jane was like any other working adult looking to stay fit. She spent her free time working out in a regular gym, occasionally attending aerobic kickboxing classes and running on the treadmill. But being left unchallenged in this mundane routine was less than satisfactory for Jane. She set out to find a better alternative, and her search brought her to the place she now calls home.

“I decided to give Evolve a call to arrange a trial class for myself,” Jane recalls. “Immediately after the trial class, I signed up.”

Since then, Jane’s decision to break free from comfort has enabled her to accomplish things she would never have imagined possible before. She currently holds a level three rank in Muay Thai and most recently earned her blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

However, whenever goals are achieved, Jane immediately sets new ones to ensure that she’s pushing herself to improve both in her level of fitness and martial arts. She entered herself into the Muay Thai competition team try-outs, looking for an opportunity to put her skills to the test.

“I decided to join the competition team because I wanted to compete in Muay Thai at a higher level,” Jane explains. “So I went for the try-outs earlier this year and thankfully, I got in.”

And though being in the competition team has kicked her training at Evolve up a few notches in toughness, Jane sees the value in being given the opportunity to skyrocket her abilities to the next level. After all, it was through martial arts that Jane was able to gain her newfound confidence and the friends she sees as family.

“Evolve and martial arts has changed me and given me courage. In the past I would always give up. But here, I don’t stop when I feel tired, I stop when I’m done,” says Jane. “I’m also very happy to be at Evolve because everyone here is very helpful and warm towards one another – Evolve is like a very big family!”
