Have you ever wondered if you are obsessed with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? Could you possibly be addicted to BJJ?

It is time to find out.

Today, Evolve Daily shares ten signs that you are obsessed with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

1) You practice techniques with your partner and family

Mendes Brothers

Most people who train BJJ will tell you it’s their favorite part of their day.

Practicing techniques on your innocent partner is probably the giveaway that you are completely obsessed (or even addicted) to BJJ.

“Hey, can I try something on you real quick?”

Your partner has probably heard this countless times. Despite this, if you have found the ‘right one’, they will still let you practice whatever is on your mind.

Oh, and if you are laying on a bed together, you are likely to pass their guard whenever possible too.

This point extends further than your relationship, too. You’ve probably practiced submissions and fancy entries to the truck position with your brothers or sisters also.

2) Your pillow has been choked and submitted many, many times

If your partner does not let you practice moves or techniques with them, then it is likely that your pillows expected lifetime is diminishing as you practice chokes and submissions on it.

What better way to test your squeeze than by wrapping up a D’Arce choke on a pillow or testing your rear-naked choke?

Of course, your pillow does not hand-fight with you, so you have all the time in the world to apply incredible pressure to your innocent pillow.

3) All of your friends train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu too

The friendships made through martial arts are priceless.

Want to know how to tell if you are obsessed with BJJ? All of your friends train as well.

This could be because you converted all your close friends into BJJ addicts or because you simply replaced the ones that refused to train with those that do.

It can be surprisingly difficult to hold a conversation with somebody who does not understand or appreciate BJJ once you have become obsessed.

The benefit of this point is that you don’t have to describe what BJJ is to your friends; there is nothing more frustrating and complicated than that sometimes.

4) You shrimp out of bed in the morning

Need a consistent way to practice your hip escapes? Shrimp out of bed in the morning.

Think of it as the blanket has you pinned under their relentless top pressure and you need to hip escape out from underneath it to start your day. It is easy, a little stupid, but plenty of fun.

5) Your entire work day consists of thinking about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

A true sign that you are undoubtedly obsessed or addicted to BJJ is that you actually leave your job to focus on training full-time. This happens more than you think.

However, for now, if you are still stuck in the 9-5 life, your entire workday consists of you having to think about BJJ.

On your lunch break, you might even be seen watching technique videos on your phone to make sure that you are fully prepared for class later in the day.

6) When you log in to YouTube, your recommended videos section is flooded with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

This one is both good and bad.

Is there a world out there that doesn’t comprise of BJJ? We certainly don’t know anymore because our YouTube home screen is just flooded with techniques from instructors all over the world.

If you have found a partner already, you are in luck. If not, imagine having to take a date home with you, and he or she asks to watch YouTube.

You load it up and all they can see if just videos of two men grappling with each other. It does not look all that appealing to an outsider and you will have to explain your passion for BJJ on your first date somehow.

7) You take yoga classes to improve your flexibility for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Your obsession with BJJ will usually lead you on a path of continual improvement. When you are not training BJJ, you should be finding ways to increase your potential when you are on the mats.

Practicing yoga is an excellent way to improve your flexibility for BJJ, and you will find that many people who practice BJJ also take yoga classes.

Now, tell me, are you doing this because you want to find inner peace and improve your health, or is it just because you want to develop a nasty rubber guard from your back?

8) You have more gis and rash guards than you probably need

One sign that you are utterly obsessed with BJJ is that you spend more time online shopping for gis and rash guards than actual day-to-day clothes.

Open up that wardrobe and count the number of items that you have. There are people out there who have a countless selection of gi’s, rashguards, and spats to choose from every time they train.

There’s something enjoyable about looking great on the mats. That killer black gi that you have been wearing might just do the trick, or will you wear your blue one instead?

9) You take your gear with you when you travel

One of the greatest opportunities within the BJJ lifestyle is the ability to hop between gyms when you are traveling.

Of course, your partner or family might not think it is all that enjoyable when you are off training with a bunch of new people, and they are stuck shopping by themselves. But for the person who is obsessed with BJJ, there is nothing more rewarding than going out and meeting new people who share the same passion as you.

10) Your Instagram is filled with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu photos

As strange as it may seem, Instagram is some sort of haven for those who love BJJ. You will find famous BJJ instructors and students with upwards of 10-30k followers everywhere.

On a personal level, over 80% of your Instagram feed will be of some relation to BJJ. Whether it is your gym, a photo of you rolling with your friend, or a selfie showing off your new gi, you can be sure you will gain an abundance of random new followers who are somehow linked to the BJJ lifestyle.

And if you are obsessed with BJJ, use Instagram, and have posted hashtags relating to BJJ or fitness, you are probably aware of “Dreaming Elegance”. To have been flooded with Dreaming Elegance comments is perhaps the biggest sign you are obsessed with BJJ.

So, which of these can you relate to?
