These 12 BJJ Drills Could Improve Your Game Instantly! (Video)

How much can drilling techniques help your BJJ game? Apparently, quite a lot!

Many Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts agree that drilling is the key to overall improvement in BJJ. In a martial art that is comparable to chess, staying ahead of your opponent is imperative.

Drilling consists of multiple repetitions of the same move in order for technique, timing, and conditioning to become second nature. Many athletes attribute their success to drills. Football players, for instance, do footwork drills to keep themselves nimble on their feet and in constant contact with the ball.

In this video, ONE FC Fighters and BJJ World Championship Silver Medalists Almiro Barros and Marcos Ratinho show us a selection of technical and movement drills one can practice with a partner to improve their BJJ skills. Almiro suggests that you do at least a hundred repetitions of each drill several times a week in order for everything to become muscle memory.

As Bruce Lee once said, “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.” There’s no doubt that this adage pays tribute to the importance of drilling for any martial artist.

Remember, in order to better our martial arts skills, drilling is the key. Not only will it improve your techniques, timing, and conditioning, but it will ultimately reveal the amount of tenacity and patience it takes to succeed in martial arts.
