Watching two competitors battle it out in the ring, with their beautiful technique and aggressiveness in full display is definitely a sight to behold. But knowing that there is an underlying story behind the intensity of the fight makes it truly unforgettable.

Today, Evolve Daily shares 4 Of The Greatest  Rivalries In Muay Thai History:

1) Jongsanan Fairtex vs Sakmongkol Sithchuchok

No article about Muay Thai rivalries would be complete without mentioning the intense rivalry between Jongsanan Fairtex and Sakmongkol Sithchuchok. In fact, this rivalry deserves to be at the top of this list for a reason. Their fifth fight, more famously known as the “Elbow Fight”, went down in Muay Thai history as one of the greatest battles in the ring. Sakmongkol and Jongsanan have met eight times in the ring, resulting in two KO finishes for each fighter. Out of their eight fights, Jongsanan has won five while Sakmongkol has won three.


2) Ramon Dekkers vs Coban Lookchaomaesaitong

The first time Dekkers and Coban met in the ring, Coban was already a Lumpinee and Rajadamnern champion. Dekkers was still making a name for himself in Thailand, a young breakout star who could hold his own against the local champions. However, Coban was able to knock him out with a left hook. Their next meeting was considered to be “the fight that changed the world of Muay Thai forever”. In this fight, it was the underdog Dekkers who was landing the blows, and he eventually won, earning him the nickname “Turbine from Hell”. This fight cemented Dekker’s place in Muay Thai history, making him the best foreign fighter in Thailand. The pair would go on to meet another two times in the ring with each fighter winning once.


3) Sangmanee Sor Tienpo vs Thanonchai Thor Sangtiennoi

Every Muay Thai fan can attest to the great battles between Sangmanee and Thanonchai. Whenever the two fight, audiences are guaranteed lots of back and forth action and beautiful Muay Thai. In fact, in an interview, Thanonchai admitted that his fights against Sangmanee were some of the most difficult of his career. The fighters have met in the ring 9 times with 5 wins to Thanonchai, 2 wins to Sangmanee, and 2 draws. One of the more dramatic incidents in the rivalry was when Sangmanee collapsed after one of their fights in 2014, after being poisoned. For such a young fighter, Sangmanee has already firmly established himself as one of the greatest fighters today. With both fighters still very active, Muay Thai fans are hoping they have not seen the last of these two battling it out.


4) Saenchai PKSaenchaimuaythaigym vs Singdam Kiatmoo9

Having both won the prestigious Fighter Of The Year award, Singdam and Saenchai are considered two of the top fighters of the current era. In total, Singdam and Saenchai have fought each other 10 times. With Saenchai being know for this tricky technical style and Singdam being know for his vicious right kicks, their battles in the ring have been entertaining fights for the fans to watch. Their last meeting was in 2014 with Singdam winning a decision, bringing his win total to 4 against Saenchai’s 6.
