Alex Silva Is Fired-Up For His Return At ONE: Dreams Of Gold

BJJ World Champion Alex “Little Rock” Silva from the Evolve Fight Team is set to make his highly-anticipated return to the ONE Championship cage this Friday night in Bangkok.

Silva will feature on the ONE: Dreams of Gold event opposite Indonesia’s top strawweight contender, Stefer “The Lion” Rahardian in what is expected to be a highly-entertaining and competitive match-up.

Ahead of their showdown, Silva looks back at his recent performances and details how he plans on making another run at the ONE Strawweight World Title.

“Yes, I would say that in these last fights the luck was not with me. All those fights were against former champions of the division, and all were very close fights and ended up in the judges’ hands,” said Silva, who says he has to be more aggressive in looking to end fights within the distance.

“Now I need to finish my fights again and not leave it to the judges. I always step in the cage with the goal to win and put on a good fight!”

With six submission wins out of seven victories on his resume, Silva remains one of the most dangerous grapplers in all of MMA. The moment he traps an opponent on the canvas, it’s only a matter of time before he secures a quick and decisive end.

Against Rahardian, Silva faces another wily veteran who possesses a well-rounded skill set. Although Rahardian is known for his grappling, just like Silva, he can mix things up if needed and has been known to get into heated striking battles.

For this bout, however, Silva wants to showcase more of his strengths, particularly with his world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu pedigree.

“I really like to strike, and sometimes I need to mix up my striking with my grappling more. I try to listen to my coaches and teammates, and I’m confident that I will put on a good performance this fight and get the victory,” said Silva.

At 36, Silva has seen it all inside the cage. He’s been World Champion in the largest martial arts organization in the world, and he knows what it takes to reach the top of the sport.

At this stage, it is difficult for fighters to find the drive to continue to push themselves to the limit in competing with the best on a daily basis. But for Silva, it’s simply a matter of passion. The Brazilian warrior loves what he does and can’t imagine doing anything else.

This is how he continues to operate at the highest level.

“I think you need to love what you do, and this is what I love. This is what drives me every day,” said Silva.

“Sometimes you go there and win, sometimes you go there and learn, but for me, the most important thing is to do what you love. I’m 100% confident that I can make it to the top again. I did it once, and I will do it again. The victory over Stefer will be my first step.”

Silva wants to go out there this time around and let loose. He believes he was too tight in his recent bouts, but now he’s motivated to return to winning form. If he can defeat Rahardian impressively, Silva could send a message to the rest of the strawweight division.

Silva has his eyes set on ONE Championship gold once again, and he plans to start his new journey in Bangkok at ONE: Dreams of Gold.

“My main focus for this fight is to go in there and have fun, no pressure at all. I think my last few fights I put too much pressure on myself,” said a determined Silva.

“I really like Stefer. He’s a humble guy. I knew that one day we were going to compete against each other and I look forward to putting on a good fight for the fans!”
